With the recession in full bloom, BOHAN combated consumer misery with humor by announcing Fazoli’s “Italian Revolution” – a viral protest movement promoting “affordable Italian for all” and built around a new web presence for the eatery at FreeSpaghetti.com. Rotating coupon offers, a Facebook page, freebies on Craigslist and MeetUp sites, and outrageous PR followed – all on a recession-friendly budget. And as customers returned, equally audacious TV spots announced the chain’s first new food items since 2005 – prompting the first positive sales and traffic in five years, 50 percent database growth, over a million page views, a 700 percent increase in coupon redemption, an EMMY, several ADDYs and BOHAN’s designation as “Supplier of the Year.”
